Perfect Spring Dresses: What to Wear for Graduation, Easter, and Passover

Spring is Here!

Yay, spring is here, or at least it’s on the way (fingers crossed, and toes too). If you live in the midwest, it’s always iffy this time of year. We think spring is on the way but it tends to go more like this…There is winter, fools spring, 2nd winter, spring of deception, 3rd winter, and then actual spring. Regardless of what Mother Nature says - the fashion gods have deemed it spring and there are some fantastic spring dresses for us all.

Spring and early summer are full of events that justify a new dress - or at least that’s how my mind works. And this year especially, it feels like the first time we are going to be able to truly gather and celebrate together. So that is 100% a reason to get dressed up.

Every year at this time I receive messages from clients and DM’s from my Instagram and Facebook communities asking about what to wear to {you fill in the blank}: graduation , bridal shower, Mother’s Day, The Kentucky Derby, First Communion, Passover, Easter - and there are probably more that I’ve missed. It’s a season of renewal and we are looking for a new dress (or two).

The Key to Finding the Perfect Spring Dress

There are a few factors that play into a dress being perfect for spring:

  1. The fabric - if the fabric is silk, chiffon, eyelet, cotton or even knit it will feel more “spring like” than wool.

  2. The color - while black and other darker colors can be worn in spring, adding some lighter or brighter colors can help your dress feel seasonally special.

  3. The pattern - florals and spring are like peanut butter and jelly, they just go together.

  4. The sleeves - because the temps in spring can be all over the place, it’s nice to have a dress that either has a sleeve or can be paired with a topper to offer some coverage in case its cold.

  5. The vibe - typically a dress for the types of occasion listed above are more celebration than work. So opt for a dress that has a little more flow or fun than a 9-5 work dress might.

  6. The occasion and location - An event at the beach requires a different kind of dress than at a house of worship.

I’m kind of obsessed with this spring dress from J Crew. I’ve already figured out three ways to wear it and will most likely be donning this dress for Maggie‘s high school graduation.
