The Corporate Capsule Wardrobe: 22 Pieces, 15+ Outfits, Endless Confidence
Meet Maddy: She's Officially Joining The Wardrobe Consultant Team
I'm so flipping excited to not only share this blog post but share this news. Maddy has been working with us part-time for the last four years, and when she graduates from college this May, she will officially be joining the team full-time as our Associate Stylist.
Not only does Maddy have a warm, engaging personality and a sharp sense of style, she has been focused and driven about this career path since she was in high school. Every step of the way she's been honing her skills, learning everything she possibly can, and she is absolutely crushing it.
Maddy has been learning all of my tips and tricks, assisting me with clients, and she is now ready to take on clients of her own. I will still be there every step of the way, overseeing everything and serving as a resource. But this girl is ready, willing, and able to help you with all of your wardrobe needs.
Read on to get to know Maddy a little better and see some of her fabulous styling work. And if you have a recent graduate in your life, I genuinely think booking a session with Maddy would be the most amazing graduation gift. Hint, hint.
xx, Hallie
Hi, I'm Maddy Markowitz!
I'm so excited to be back on The Wardrobe Consultant blog. A quick reintroduction: I'm currently a senior majoring in Fashion Merchandising at Kent State University and a proud Clevelander. I've had the opportunity to work with Hallie part-time over the past four years, and I'll officially be joining her team as Associate Stylist after I graduate this May.
Last spring we wrote a College Internship Capsule Wardrobe post, and so many of you asked for a follow-up focused on more formal corporate environments, especially for industries like law, finance, and traditional corporate offices.
So Hallie and I took that request and built something a little bigger than a single blog post. We created a two-part wardrobe roadmap. This post is the foundation: a streamlined corporate capsule with 15 polished work outfits, designed for new grads who are starting from scratch and want to build a real wardrobe one smart purchase at a time.
When you're ready to grow, we built a second capsule that picks up where this one leaves off. More on that at the end.
Why a Foundation Capsule Is Your Secret Weapon
Let me paint you the typical scenario. It's a week before your first day in the corporate world, and suddenly your closet feels empty. You go on a shopping spree and come home with 20 new pieces, only to wake up on your first day rushing to get out the door while still trying to look polished. You start trying things on and quickly realize none of the pieces actually work together.
That's exactly where Hallie and I step in. The foundation capsule is designed to take the stress out of dressing for your corporate job. Versatile pieces that mix and match into tons of professional outfits, can be worn off-duty, and most importantly, are an investment you build intentionally instead of in a panic.
A note on graduation gifts: If you have a new grad in your life, booking Maddy as their first personal stylist is hands-down one of the most useful gifts you can give them. We've put together a Gift-A-Grad package that takes all the guesswork out of it. Learn more about Gift-A-Grad here →
The Balanced Wardrobe Approach
Hallie's philosophy is that a healthy, balanced wardrobe is made up of 50% basics, 25% elevated essentials, 15% statement pieces, and 10% trend pieces. This foundation capsule follows that same equation in miniature. Which means you can mix and match these pieces with your favorite closet staples for any occasion, from work to day-to-night to weekend plans.
If you are interesting in learning more about how to build a balanced wardrobe, we have a free masterclass where you'll learn the secrets to creating a wardrobe that's as functional as it is fashionable!
What's in the Foundation Capsule
This is the streamlined starter set. The pieces below give you maximum versatility with minimum overwhelm:
2 blazers (one black, one tan)
1 wrap dress
1 short-sleeve dress
1 satin midi skirt
4 tops (a printed tank, a striped tee, a wrap top, a button-down)
1 cardigan
2 pairs of pants (black, olive)
2 belts (leopard print, classic black)
2 bags (a structured tote, a raffia bag)
2 pairs of shoes (slingbacks, ballet flats)
A few jewelry pieces and a printed scarf
A few notes on why these specific pieces:
Two blazers, one in black and one in tan. Black handles the formal end of your wardrobe, tan handles everything else. Together they cover almost every work occasion.
Two dresses, two completely different vibes. The wrap dress is your warm-weather workhorse. The short-sleeve dress in brown reads as sleek and slightly more formal.
A satin midi skirt as your single statement piece. Burgundy plays beautifully with everything else and adds a layer of "I have my life together" to any outfit you put it in.
Mixed neutral pants. Black and olive give you two different palettes to work from without committing to a third color you'll have to coordinate around.
15 Days of Foundation Outfits
To show how versatile these pieces really are, I styled 15 different professional work outfits (3 entire work weeks!) using only the foundation. So without further ado, here are 15 days of looks.
The point is that 15 outfits don't require 15 different shopping trips. They require a smart starting wardrobe and a few styling tricks.
Want to Take Your Wardrobe Further?
Honestly, building a foundation is just the start. As you settle into your career and your wardrobe needs grow, you'll naturally want to add more pieces, like a navy suit for big presentations, a few more layering options, and a maxi dress that can pull double-duty for work and weekend.
That's exactly what we built next. The Corporate Capsule Wardrobe Expansion picks up where the foundation leaves off. It includes the additional pieces worth investing in as your wardrobe grows, plus 20 brand new work outfits (an entire month of styled looks!) that show you exactly how to wear them.
It's a members-only page on the site with lifetime access for $19. No subscription, no fuss. Think of it as the next chapter of your work wardrobe roadmap.

Whether you're prepping for your first corporate job, helping a recent grad get ready for theirs, or just looking to refresh your work wardrobe, I hope this gives you a strong starting point. Can't wait to hear what you build.
xx, Maddy
