The Best Jeans Under $100: 4 Pairs I'd Buy Again

Best Jeans Under $100

There was a long stretch where good denim meant spending $200, and most of us just accepted that as the cost of a jean that actually fit. That's not true anymore. The mid-price brands got serious about fabric in the last few years, and some of the pairs I reach for most often are well under a hundred dollars.

Everything below is denim I've actually worn. Not pairs I clicked through on a website and guessed at. These four cover four different silhouettes on purpose, so whether you're a wide leg person, a straight leg loyalist, or someone who's been circling the barrel trend without committing, there's a starting point here.

Here's the thing about denim shopping: the pair that works is almost never the pair that looks best flat on a table. So before the picks, a quick word on what to actually pay attention to.

What to look for before you buy

  • Rise matters more than size. If a jean feels wrong and you can't name why, it's usually the rise sitting in the wrong spot on your torso. Find the rise that works for your body and the size sorts itself out.

  • Stretch is a trade-off, not an upgrade. High-stretch denim is comfortable and forgiving, and it will relax on you by hour six. Low-stretch holds its shape all day and asks a little more of you on the front end. Neither is better. They're for different days.

  • Hem length is what makes a jean look expensive. A great pair hemmed wrong reads cheap. A modest pair hemmed right reads intentional. Tailoring is the highest-return $20 in your closet. Make sure to ask for a tricky/original hem to keep the look authentic.

These three things hold true at every price point. If you want to see them play out across a much bigger range, I tried on more than 20 pairs for my Ultimate Denim Guide, including the splurge pairs. Same body, same stats, honest notes on every single one.

Luna Stretch Wide Leg Jean ($50)

Who it's for: Anyone who wants a wide leg with no drama attached.

This is the easiest wide leg entry point I've found. Relaxed through the hip, wide at the hem, and a mid-rise waistband you're not fighting with by mid-afternoon. The denim is soft and stretchy, which makes it the pair I grab when I want to look pulled together and think about my clothes exactly zero times after I leave the house. It comes in a whole run of washes, so if you land on a fit you love you can go back for another color.

How I'd style it: White tee, a loafer or a low block heel so the hem has something to break over, and a structured bag to keep the whole thing from going too casual. Add a cropped jacket if you want more shape through the waist.

Fit notes: This pair fits true to size and I love that it comes in extra short, short, regular and tall. I ordered the short (I’m 5’4”) and they’re perfect!

Bella Barrel Jean ($50)

Who it's for: The barrel-curious. If you've been watching this silhouette and waiting for a version that isn't a whole statement, this is it.

You guys know I love a barrel jean. That silhouette has been in my closet for six plus years now, well before it started showing up everywhere. The Bella has a high-rise waist that holds you in and manages to be comfortable about it, a structured barrel leg for that modern shape, and organic cotton that stays soft without going shapeless by dinner.

The reason I'd start here specifically: the curve is subtle. It reads current without reading costume. Closet workhorse.

How I'd style it: Tuck something fitted in. A ribbed tank, a fine-gauge knit, anything that lets the leg shape be the interesting part. Sneaker or ankle boot both work.

Fit notes: Fit is TTS and length is perfect (comes in short and regular, I got short). The beauty of this barrel is that it is subtle, no stitching at the knees, so it feels very wearable.

Mid Rise UltraSoft Baggy Jeans in Off White ($53)

Who it's for: The days you want to look like you didn't try.

Okay, I am obsessed with these. Baggy, slouchy, completely un-fussy, and they just work. The fabric is lightweight and genuinely ultra-soft, so they feel exactly as easy as they look.

These are the I-didn't-try-that-hard pants, which, let's be honest, is the goal most mornings. The off white is my pick because it does something a blue jean can't do, but they come in fifteen-plus colors and prints if white pants aren't your thing.

How I'd style it: Tonal is the move here. Cream sweater, camel jacket, gold jewelry. Or go the other way and pair the off white with something deep and saturated for contrast.

Fit notes: These run TTS (I ordered a 26 but now need a 25, yay for my health and wellness journey). Length wise these come in petite, regular and tall - I got regular and they’re perfect with a kitten heel.

High Rise '90s Slim Straight Crop Jeans ($71)

Who it's for: The person who wants one pair that goes with everything and stays in rotation for years.

A straight leg is truly timeless, and it's a shape I will always keep in my closet no matter what's happening in denim at the moment. These are cut in low-stretch denim, so they hold their shape from morning through the end of the day.

The cropped length is the part I'd call out: it hits exactly where a great shoe gets to be the focus, which makes this pair worth more than its price tag in styling range.

How I'd style it: This is your shoe showcase. Pointed flat, a mule, a western boot. Half-tuck a button-down and you have an outfit that works for school pickup and dinner out with no changes in between.

Fit notes: These literally look good with every shoe, the ankle length is so versatile. They run tts and make me feel snatched, lol!

More jeans under $100 worth knowing about

Four pairs cover a lot of ground, but denim is personal, and the shape that makes one person feel great can make someone else feel like she's wearing a costume. So here are more options at this price, sorted by silhouette. Find your shape, then find your pair.

One last thing

If you've read this whole post and you're still not sure which pair is yours, that's information too! It usually means the question isn't really about jeans. It's about what you're building around them.

That's the work I do with clients every day: figuring out what a balanced wardrobe looks like for your actual life, not the one a catalog imagines for you. If you want help getting there, I'd love to talk.
