Ditch the Guesswork: How Precision Medicine Creates a True Health Transformation
A Note from Hallie
Let's talk about something that's not usually in my wheelhouse: health and wellness.
I know, I know. I'm your wardrobe girl. But here's the thing: how you feel in your body affects how you feel in your clothes. And I've been on quite a journey over the last year and a half when it comes to my own health, so I wanted to share it with you. Because if it saves you even a fraction of the time, money, and frustration it has cost me, it's worth it.
I've been lucky to have wonderful doctors here in Cleveland. I have great primary care physicians, a concierge doctor, specialists for all the things (GYN, hormone specialist, endocrinologist, gastroenterologist). On paper, I had a solid team. But in reality, I was still feeling exhausted after a full night's sleep. Brain foggy. Unsure if my hormones were actually dialed in. I was dealing with Barrett's esophagus, rashes from foods I was eating, osteopenia, and a thyroid antibody number that was wildly out of range. We're talking 850 when normal is around 50. And the answer I kept getting was basically, "We'll wait until it becomes a real problem." That didn't sit well with me.
So I tried to build my own wellness dream team, with a nutritionist here, a hormone specialist there, and my concierge doctor coordinating (sort of). But what I was missing was a quarterback. One person who understood the full picture, who could help me process all the information and make decisions that actually aligned with my goals, my values, and what I could realistically implement in my life.
I looked into functional and precision medicine programs, and honestly, a lot of them felt too focused on men — a little too gym-bro for me. Others that were women-focused only addressed hormones and nothing else. And some were so intensive and expensive that while my health is absolutely worth it, the value just wasn't there for me.
Then I found my answer which actually came through my husband, Greg.
Greg had started working with Dr. Deep at Velocity Health, and we'd seen incredible results with him. I had an honest conversation with Dr. Deep, telling him that while I respected what he was doing, I really needed someone who specialized in women's health. And he said, "We have that! Meet Dr. Busse, our Director of Women's Health."
Once I sat down with Dr. Busse, I felt like everything clicked. She wasn't just looking at one piece of the puzzle, she was helping me understand my full picture. My personal goals, my values, what I could actually commit to in terms of lifestyle changes. She used testing and data to figure out where we could move the needle first, made changes, retested, and then refined from there. It was the comprehensive, proactive approach I'd been searching for.
Now I feel like I finally have someone helping me understand what's going on with my body, creating a realistic game plan for the next few decades, and using lifestyle changes and supplements where we can and western medicine where we need to. It's exactly the kind of partnership I was looking for.
And if you're wondering whether it's worth the investment, I told Dr. Busse on a recent live that I'd take Velocity over a designer bag any day. A bag is just a bag. This is your health, your energy, and how you feel in everything you put on. No contest.
I'm going to let Dr. Busse take it from here and get into the medical details. But if you have any questions about Velocity or my experience, please don't hesitate to reach out. I'm always happy to talk about it.
xo, Hallie
Ditch the Guesswork: How Precision Medicine Creates a True Health Transformation
By Brittany Busse, Head of Women’s Health at Velocity Health
Women aren’t failing at taking care of health; their healthcare is failing to take care of them.
You’ve done what you were told. You’ve eaten better, exercised more, tried the supplements, followed the plans. And yet… the fatigue lingers. The weight won’t budge. Your labs come back “normal,” but you don’t feel normal. You leave appointments with more questions than answers, wondering if this is just how it’s supposed to be.
This is the frustration so many women carry.
Because the truth is, most of modern healthcare was never designed with women in mind. It’s built on mostly male research, male averages, and male physiology. Health optimization and wellness trends are full of mostly male protocols from male experts.
Women’s health is reduced down to our hormones and then relegated to OB-GYN And when “evidence-based” advice doesn’t work, it’s easy to assume the problem is you. It’s not.
The problem is a system that treats symptoms instead of understanding the unifying problems beneath. Parts instead of the whole.
That’s where Precision Medicine changes everything.
Hallie’s Story
When I first met Hallie in summer of 2025 she had several concerns about her health that she felt were inadequately addressed by her existing healthcare team.
At Velocity Health we start with a Precision Pathways visit where we determine the course of testing that is likely to reveal the most targeted interventions for a woman’s specific goals.
We discussed Hallie’s health concerns including insulin resistance, allergies and skin reactions, possible food intolerance with bloating and irregularity, elevated thyroglobulin levels with potential autoimmune disease, and hormone health. Hallie and I met to discuss her concerns and goals before any tests were ordered.
At first glance these seem like disparate concerns, but we decided to move forward with a closer examination of her gut health, in addition to precision blood work for insulin resistance, and genetic testing to understand her body’s patterns.
Gut health testing was foundational to Hallie’s approach because allergic disease, hormone balance, insulin resistance, skin health, and autoimmune disease all have ties to the health of the gut. The microbiome is a key player in the immune system, so when the microbiome is unhealthy, the gut barrier and subsequently the immune system break down into a cascade that can lead to skin issues and even thyroid disease. The microbiome and the enterohepatic circulation also play key roles in hormone balance and insulin resistance.
At Velocity, testing isn’t simply collecting data, it's revealing patterns.

Sleuthing the Clues
Once we had all of Hallie’s results we started translating data into strategy.
As I suspected, her microbiome was lacking in diversity and wasn’t producing enough butyrate - a short chain fatty acid that is essential to the health of the gut cells and maintenance of a healthy gut barrier. This was the root cause of her autoimmunity as well as her skin rashes.
In addition to mast cell activation (allergic precursor) in the gut lining due to loss of barrier integrity, her genetic test showed that she had very low levels of DAO enzyme - an enzyme that is critical for breaking down histamine in the body. This was causing her to have year round allergic symptoms that were only controlled with anti-histamines. Hallie met with the nutritionist and immediately identified that many of the foods she was “allergic to” were very high in histamine.
We also switched Hallie to bio-identical estradiol and progesterone as synthetic alternatives can often lead to increased inflammation.
Hallie received a targeted nutrition plan including a Histamine elimination diet, supplements that supported her physiologic needs, and a menopause hormone therapy prescription that works with her body and supports her overall health.
We have continued to meet quarterly to re-examine her labs, discuss symptoms, and get additional testing when needed.
Hallie also meets monthly with her Health Coach to ensure she is staying on track.
At Velocity, we have an N=1 approach which means that every person is treated as a unique individual, not a statistic. Every plan is tailored and every intervention is intentional. Women are also surrounded with a team of individuals who have similar lived experience, and support them throughout their journey with regular texts, phone calls, emails, and video visits.
Putting Relationships at the Center of Health
At Velocity Women's Care, we’re putting relationships back at the center of health. Not just the relationship between patient and physician, but the relationship a woman has with her own body, and the connection she feels to a larger community walking the same path.
Because real transformation doesn’t come from a prescription handed across a desk. It comes from being seen, understood, and guided over time.
Precision medicine is not a prescription, it’s a process.
Your body is dynamic. Hormones shift, metabolism adapts, life changes. Instead of chasing symptoms, we continuously monitor, adjust, and refine, so your care evolves with you. That’s why membership matters. Not as a model, but as a commitment to continuity.
I don’t just want you to feel your best today, but to be a stronger, more radiant version of yourself well into the future.
Hallie’s early wins weren’t luck. They were the result of finally removing guesswork and responding with precision.
Her story reflects why so many women feel stuck. Not from lack of effort, but from lack of individualized strategy.
If you’re done guessing… this is your next step.
At Velocity, we pair you with your own personal physician who actually gets to know you and walks with you as a trusted guide, not a health guru.
This isn’t a quick fix.
It’s a turning point.
Start where you are. We’ll meet you there.
